Hello Studio display owners. I will be purchasing a Mac Studio desktop in the next few weeks and would like to know if the current Studio display owners would recommend the Studio Display. Or should I be looking at something else? My usages are photography and general computing. In the past I have owned 2 - 27" 5K iMacs and currently have a 24" iMac and have been happy with those displays. Also I may want to use the display with a windows computer will that work well.
Thanks

Mac Studio owner with the Studio Display and I'm happy with mine other than the minor annoyance when I need to switch back and forth between my work and personal computers. If you plan on switching or using a Windows computer and don't mind the matte finish, it might be worth waiting on the upcoming 27" 5K Samsung ViewFinity S9. If that doesn't interest you, then the Studio Display will still be a fine choice and a pretty similar experience to your iMacs.

Studio owner w/ multiple ASD set-up. I love it. There's nothing on the market today that I would choose over them except the XDR. But my three ASD are cheaper than one XDR. . .

However I have no experience w/ using the ASDs with anything except Apple Silicon. I think I would carefully research how it behaves with Windows. IIRC at launch there were many complaints that it didn't play nicely - example it has no physical controls for volume or brightness. Not sure how that works with Windows.

I agree with Jared, if matte is okay for you I'd look at the Samsung and the new Dell 6K.

Really happy with mine. I saw an article recently (can't remember which site had it) that did a comparison across the board for pixel density, brightness, color, etc. The Studio Display had the highest marks against LG, Samsung, and HP.

If you are NOT gaming with the Studio Display, it is a fantastic monitor with really good audio and microphones. I use continuity camera with my iPhone to improve camera quality for video chats.

I have two for my MacBook Pro. I love them. They're both VESA models for flexibility; one is currently in landscape and the other is in portrait. I use them for text and medical imaging and the image quality is equal to the $17,000 FDA-approved medical grade monitors we use at work.

The only main downside, and it may not apply to you, is that there's only one input. So connecting more than one computer requires unplugging and plugging.

If used to 5k iMac then the Studio Display is a good match as basically the same panel.

lots of photographers used 5k iMacs So good for them.

however there is only one TB input so would have to plug and unplug. Also will need to ensure that your computer can drive a screen like that.

a windows computer will work in that if do displayport to connect then the audio/camera won’t work but screen will.

if want the monitor to work with audio and camera then need a tb output.
will get audio but not spatial.

as such devices against it as I do need to hook up windows pc as well.

I'm also considering purchasing the Studio Display to replace my 27" HP Envy 4k monitor as I don't like that it cannot use the native MacOS resolution (5k). I also like that the studio display has built-in speakers and webcam.

My question is regarding the webcam. I have a lot of virtual meetings with clients over Microsoft Teams and currently use the Logitech 920 HD webcam. How does the Studio Display webcam compare? Also, I noticed in my area there's a refurbished model for $220 less but thinking I might just pony up the full price just to avoid any refurbished type issues that may present themselves.

Any feedback/suggestions on this would be appreciated.

P.S - I do not use this for gaming, it's strictly a business use case where I plugin my existing 13" 2020 Macbook Pro.

If you’re comfortable with the price, I highly recommend it.

I use mine (standard coating with height/adjustable stand) with my MacBook Pro for coding, entertainment, video calls, and general productivity tasks and it’s far and away the best display I’ve ever owned.

The build quality is exceptional and I’ve had zero issues/regrets since purchasing it. I find the webcam to be at least as good as my iPhone 12 Pro Max (using Continuity Camera and Ultrawide lens) or MacBook Pro when using Center Stage with Portrait Lighting (despite initial Internet outrage). The speakers are excellent and everything “just works.”

I got my Studio Display in August last year. It has been an absolute joy to use every day. I would go so far as to say a quality of life improvement.

Objectively, the webcam is still average. No way around it. Apple could've and should've done better.

Other than that, the industrial design, build quality, picture and sound are all superb. I have no experience using it with a PC so can't comment there.

Thanks, picked one up the other day and absolutely loving it. It helped me remove so much clutter around my desk with the one thunderbolt cable. No more Caldigit Dock, Separate Microphone and Logitech Webcam. I will say, I don't find the webcam all that bad to be honest.
