Hi, how are you? I wanted to ask how I can install the Mac operating system, whether it be Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard, on a USB;

To explain myself better, I want to install the operating system from the optional drive inside a USB, everything from the Powerbook G4, the utility disk recognizes the USB but when I select it in the installation options it tells me that "it is not possible to install it on that unit"

Is there a procedure for Mac G4 that allows us to install operating systems on USB, I hope for answers, thank you very much.

Start the Mac by inserting the appropriate installation disc.

after starting I went to disk utilities and formatted the USB as "Mac os Plus with Journal" and "GUID Partition Map"; I format it perfectly; Then I continued with the installation and when I chose where to install it, it recognized the USB but it puts a forbidden symbol (red exclamation point) and it doesn't let me install it on the USB.

"GUID Partition Map"

GUID won't work for a PowerPC Mac. It has to be formatted with Apple Partition Map as I wrote above.

It's the middle option that you need. :)

I should point out that booting on a PPC is simpler if you have a Firewire drive. Those are getting hard to find.

I was ready to post about GUID (won't work with PPC Macs for booting), but TheShortTimer was faster.

Excellent, I'm realizing that I don't have Snow leopard, my fault, I have the "Panther" 10.3.5 disk, and believe it or not, it's like there are no file schema options to choose from, it's different, I can only choose complete formats, Unix, mac with registry, etc...
More problems hahaha

Snow Leopard won’t work on a PowerBook either. You would need Panther, Tiger, or Leopard.

Tiger can be obtained here. :)

Are you comfortable with downloading and burning CD/DVD images?
