Im looking at trading in an iPhone for a gift card at the apple store before the new iPhones come out and if I did it would I also be able to ask for extra money to be loaded onto the same gift card they give me all during the same transaction? For an iPhone 7, Apple Store is quoting $200 and I would load $250 of my own money at the same time. Would they allow for the entire $450 balance to be on the one card they give me or would I be forced to have two separate apple gift cards one for $200 and the other for $250?

I wonder what you want to accomplish here by combining your money and trade-in credit into one gift card. In sydney, someone tried this one day and didn’t pan out.

How did it not pan out? I’m trying to get rid of my Apple Cash Card balance that I’ve saved since it came out and figured I could use it to buy a gift card since the new iPhones are about to release soon and I’m doing the trade in for my 7 so I wouldn’t want to carry around two gift cards. There is no way to split payments when paying with Apple Pay so I wouldn’t be able to just split the methods during pre ordering but I CAN split the bill if I use a gift card so that’s why I would prefer the whole balance be on one and not two gift cards

I didn’t hear the full story but Apple store staff said such practice was not permitted in Australia for some reason. Given Apple store staff may give wrong information from time to time, I suggest you call Apple a bit to confirm first before doing so.

As for the reasoning, it is a valid one. I see your point now.
