I could very well be overthinking this, but I need someone to demystify how the Messages app (texts) interacts between the watch and the iPhone. It's really messing with my OCD. But like I said, I could be overthinking this entirely.

I was under the impression that as long as you have "Mirror my iPhone" selected in Settings, then everything that you do on your watch should "mirror" or carry over to your iPhone. Example - I've noticed when i delete a text thread/conversation on my watch, I go to check Messages app on my iPhone, and that same thread I just deleted on the watch is still there on the phone. Is this how it's supposed to work?

Maybe I'm not understanding how it's designed/intended to work.

Make sure text messages are backing up to iCloud. And this will only work with iMessage not SMS. So blue ones not green ones. And it’s only one way. Delete from phone and they delete from watch, not other way around that I have noticed.

Yep, my messages are always backed up to iCloud.

"Mirror my iPhone" is only related to your notifications. For some reasons, you have to delete your messages on your watch manually.

Ok, thanks. You'd think that whatever you do on one device would happen on your other device(s).

Oh well
