Question: IAP for comics and gift cards

Hi all,

I really just wanted to verify something.

I received a gift card recently. I plugged it into the App store and I got my credits. Then I purchased a comic the marvel app. I noticed I was billed like normal and it didn't use any of my credits.

Is this correct? In-app purchases like comics don't use your credits? Or am I missing something?
