About a month ago I had a problem using boot camp where, after partitioning the hard drive, I went to install XP and it couldn't see the partition I made, only the OS X partition. I aborted the install and went to restart OS X, but couldn't get past the white screen, it didn't even have the Apple logo. A complete run down of what happened can be found at the link below.

Since then I've had to get a new hard drive, and no data could be recovered from the old one. The tech told me it was mechanical failure of the old one, so I assumed that something must have been wrong beforehand and making the partition was just what set it off. I plan on giving it another try, but before I did I did a bit of searching to see if anyone else had encountered a similar problem. I ended up finding a thread at Macfixit where 3 other people had the same issue. There was also a post here earlier this week with the same issue. This all made me start thinking that maybe there's a bug or something that's causing damage to hard drives. Has anyone heard of a problem like this? Could it be due to boot camp still being a beta? I looked on Apple's support page and didn't see anything, but I may have just missed something.

For reference, I have a MBP C2D, and the XP install disc I had didn't have SP2.

Any help/ideas would be great.
