Will this just work? I want my saves to carry over. I should be able to just sell my Switch, log in with the new one, and be good to go, right? Or no? Thanks!

Yes, if you have a Nintendo Switch Online, most of the saves are carried over through the cloud. Just log in to the new console and the game will start. But check: not all games support cloud save (for example, Splatoon).

News on this today. Nintendo is setting up a transfer mechanism/process that takes into account that you may lose access to your original Switch before you get your Switch 2.

Not all Switch games will be backwards compatible on Switch 2. Some that will might also only have partial compatability. Therefore I wouldn't rush to sell my Switch if you want to continue playing your library. At least wait 1-2 months post launch to verify what works and what doesn't.

It's probably best to do the local transfer, This way everything that transfer across also stays on the Switch 1 and the Switch 1 won't get wiped during the transfer process. The only save that gets permanently transferred is Animal Crossing New Horizons.

If you do decide to go the route of uploading your data to the cloud and then re-downloading it on the Switch 2, The Switch 1 will get factory reset, so best to do this closer to the time when the Switch 2 releases.
