first i'm not an iPhone 5 owner but i am considering it :D

what port does this new lightning cable connect to usb or thunderbolt or both i maybe sold if its thunderbolt !

i dont have usb 3.0 on my current stuff
 
I'm not sure Apple was going after faster. I think smaller was the goal. Make more room inside the devices.

You don't need to own an iPhone 5 to know. Hit the Apple site and you can easily answer your own question. If you're considering the 5 then you should be reading up on it.

Faster than what? The 30 pin dock connector supported USB 2 as well.
