Question: New iPhone purchase...Wait to activate

Im currently with AT&T and my contract ends on Jan 5th. I want to switch over to Verizon. If I reserve my phone thru Apple tonight and go to pick it up tomorrow can I wait to activate it? Or will my contract and service start as soon as I buy the phone at the Apple store?

Your contract and service start the day you take your phone home.

He could probably start a new line of service and then port his number on the 5th. Though I think he's better off simply waiting. Probably will be less of a rush after Christmas too. Or if the ETF is less than the montly payment, it might be worth simply terminating the contract now.

I'd recommend waiting as well. You will end up paying roughly 11 days of your current ATT data plan. No sense jumping the gun and perhaps making things more difficult for yourself.
