I heard that the first generation unibody MBP, the 2.53GHz top model (late 08), can take up to 8GB of RAM just like the new ones. Is this true?

Also are the new MBPs using a different 2.53 cpu? The new ones have 3mb of L2 cache while the old ones had 6mb. Thanks.

I don't know about the cpu, but on macsales.com it says that the 15" pro first gen models can handle 8gigs of RAM. Since they haven't updated their site yet to the new macbook pro line including the 13". This is correct.

There is a thread that says it can use 6gb easy but 8gb is not too stable
