Question on Adding Clients

I've just invested in a MacMini Server which was mainly for using Plex as a media centre. However, now I've started playing with it I can really see the merits of using it as a server to.
I've got an iMac and MBP and am struggling to add them as clients. Most of the guides show adding them once you've gone through the install of OSX. Really dont wanna go through all that just to add them.
Am i missing something?
