We had purchased a used iPhone XR from Facebook Marketplace in mint condition. There are no problems with the phone, but had noticed in Settings...General...About an extended warranty through 10/24/2028. I included a screen shot from the phone and from the Apple serial number lookup support site. I had no idea you could even get a warranty that far in the future.

We had purchased Applecare in the past for phones, but had not ever see this as 'extended warranty'. What does this mean? Was an extended warranty purchased through a 3rd party and any replacements would be done through a different route than working through Apple?

Thank you.

You can’t get a warranty that long.
Didn't think so either. But you cannot mock iOS software to show something different nor apples on website that is in the photos posted by the OP.

That is odd. If it was 3rd party it wouldn't show up on the device itself. SO its through Apple.

I'm going to assume this may of been part of some sort of enterprise / educational device at one point. Thats the only exeption I could see it having such a long warranty. But if the later the phone is most likely stolen property.

I am guessing it is some kind of account / software glItch.

I had wondered if it was a glitch also. I googled it and came across a few others having the same thing.

It is not stolen. We met at the carrier and it's all clean.

That does not mean much. I could sell you my iPhone and report it stolen a year from now and take an insurance claim. It happens way too often than one would think.

Also things don't always get noticed quickly or noticed at all if it was from an enterprise of somesort.

But just because a phone is clean and clears checks doesn't mean its not stolen.

Not saying it is stolen, just saying there is a possiblity.

Might be worth to call Apple and ask about it, if its some sort of enterprise apple care its most definitely stolen, but then again it could be a bug/glitch in the end.

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro issued to me by my work, a small company. There's zero control software on the Mac and it's entirely under my control. It has no identification marks on it by my company and I am an admin user on the Mac.

I could meet you somewhere and tell you that I bought it, even show you a fake receipt (I am a graphic designer). Are you going to believe it's mine? Just accept my word for it? You really have no reason to doubt me, but the reality would be after that point that you'd be purchasing a laptop that wasn't mine to sell you.

The seller can tell you whatever they think you want to hear, show you whatever it is they think you're going to want to see. The reality is that it's quite possible it wasn't theirs to sell - even if it's not 'stolen'.

This reminds me of something that happened to me a while back

I had AppleCare+ once, got my iPhone replaced under this extended warranty at some point and they somehow made a mistake and extended the AppleCare+ warranty by another 2 years on the replacement (AppleCare+ was about to expire). I even called them afterwards and "played" dumb to get them to confirm the end date without me mentioning it first, like "can you tell me how long I have still warranty on my iPhone?" and they really confirmed that date +2 years in the future.

Not quite the same but apparently mistakes do happen.

I called Apple this morning and they said the Applecare through 10/24/2028 is legitimate and a valid date.

I am wondering if if this Applecare+ is a Month to Month plan? I know if you pay in full, they extend a year but then after that you do actually have the option to continue on with the applecare Plus month to month. Maybe contact the seller if that's the case? I'd imagine if the seller was on a month to month, they might cancel the monthly subscription?

Not sure how this works as I never done a month to month applecare plan.

Did you ask how the coverage can be so long?
I did specifically ask her if the date could be incorrect. She said the date is fine and that she had seen this before. That is where the conversation ended. It is odd, but she said it was nothing out the ordinary. Go figure.
