just noticed my 11 Pro Max has a small scratch on the screen. about 1/3 inches long, not deep at all, you only notice it on certain angles under the light. will Apple accept this condition as a return iphone via IUP?

I don’t think the trade in criteria mentioned scratches, and the one I sent in had several. The key is it had no scratches! Just received the email last night that the trade-in was accepted and my loan was closed out

i'm trying to think through the logistic of this, say i receive the new phone and mail in my current phone, how fast will apple receive the return package and examining it? worst case scenario, my current phone did not pass their examination and will be returning back to me, do i have enough time to return the new phone if that happens? returning period is 14 days after it was received correct?

Yes, as others mentioned should be fine. I remember reading somewhere that the practical way to figure out if the scratch is "surface-level" or not is to run your fingernail over it. If your nail catches on the scratch, then it's actually indented, and is considered damage. If your nail just goes over the scratch smoothly as if it wasn't there, it's just on the oleophobic coating, and no issues.

The language specifying the physical condition of a trade-in differs between the standard trade-in offering and iUP.

Standard trade-in: “It turns on and functions normally. All the buttons work. The cameras work. The body is free of dents and scratches. The touchscreen and back glass are undamaged.”

IUP: “It must (i) power on and hold a charge; (ii) have an intact and functioning display; and (iii) cannot have any breaks or cracks.”

Note that the IUP language does not mention scratches. My IUP trade-ins have had multiple deep (can feel with fingernail) scratches the past 2 years and both have been accepted without issue.

So AC+ won’t cover deep scratches, but they’re considered beyond normal wear for iUP? What do you do in that case then, pay for a full price screen replacement?

I've been looking for this info for a while. Thanks for the clarification!!
