I'm a recent switcher....

I've downloaded some files to my iMac. But when I I try to copy them off to a linux Samba server, I regularly get messages that I can't because there's a name that's either too long or contains invalid characters..

If I look at the files usually it's not name length but invalid characters. I then have been manually renaming the files which is a pain...

I never had this problem in the Windows world. Is there a way to tell the iMac to use more compitable file names? Or a method to run something on a directory?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

Is that a network storage linux box? I think it depends on how you format the drives... and I think if it is a network storage box like a buffalo or such like you could be quite limited as reformatting goes.

It is linux. Formatted ext3 if I remember correctly. The last thing I would want to do is reformat the linux box. I'm in a bit of a storage crunch as it stands now.
