you should be able to pay with cash, but att will run a credit check on you if you a a few customer, for any cell phone you buy, so i would imagine you would need to at least have a credit card of some sort in order to have a high enough credit score to qualify for a cell phone
It would be helpful if you tell us what country you plan to buy it in. Each country will have different rules for purchasing the iPhone.
