It's a blade drive of the same style Apple uses in MBAs and rMBPs. You can get aftermarket versions from OWC.

You can replace the HDD (not the blade SSD) in the 2012 iMacs with standard SSD drives rather painlessly. The rMBPs and MBAs have nowhere to put one.

If its the same as the blade ssd in the other Mac lines, does that mean the size of the ssd on a fusion drive can be upgraded (if we so chose to be stupid enough to open them)

im hoping to be able to change the blade ssd for a higher capacity one.

You'd have to completely restore the system from backup, but yes.
