Question on Tethering

I have a question on tethering. I have a jailbroke 4.1 iphone and I would like to purchase a new ipad2 and get wi-fi and avoid getting a service plan 3g one.

Can I purchase my-fi for my phone and then use just a wifi Ipad2 for internet access? Will this work. Will the speed be fast enough?

You do not need MyWi on your iPad and therefore do not need to jailbreak it.
