question on text notifications

I'm sure it's something simple...

I get the ping on my watch when I get a message, but now my phone doesn't vibrate. I have it set to vibrate, but does the watch override the phone?

Is there a way to have my phone and watch vibrate?

I'm getting used to my phone not going off all the time, just glance at my Watch to see if it can wait or needs a quick response from my watch or a longer msg on my phone.
