I recently installed a new HD in my C2D Macbook and it's working great. I have been using Time Machine for a while now with a USB 2.0 WD Passport external.

I restored the stuff I wanted, which was mainly iTunes/iPhone stuff, my iPhoto data and some other stuff. The rest I just reinstalled, like Google Chrome.

Anyway, I want to start backups again but I have this old data on the Passport drive. I don't exactly want to erase it yet, but I don't know if Time Machine is going to use that older data to append my current config to it. I'm not really sure how this works with a new install. My system is basically set up the same as before, except I have a much bigger drive now. Can I start a new scheme? Or will it be ok to add it to the previous one?

Thanks

That's a good question. As far as I know, I think Time Machine will just continue saving data from the last save point, as long as your new hard drive is named the same as the old one ("Macintosh HD" or whatever).
