I am backing up my computer using Time Machine on an external hard disk.

I was wondering will my backup be accessible on another OS X computer if the initial computer went completely busted? Or are computers tied to their respective Time Machine back ups.

There are definitely means of restoring your files backed up with Time Machine to another Mac. In fact one way of migrating information from an old mac to a new mac is using a Time Machine Backup.

I actually just did this and it went flawlessly. My new Mac is basically a mirror image of my old Mac, all personal settings and customizations were transferred to the new machine. It worked perfectly.
