Got my (unexpected) MBP in today, and so far so good on this one. However, I'm concerned about temps/fan speed, as downloading Macs Fan Control I see the fans are running at their minimum RPM and temps seem high, to me. Feels pretty hot too. This is an older MBP, which didn't have the greatest thermals so I'm not sure how concerned to be. I've attached a picture of some of my temps in Celsius.
Since I'm worried about burning up the machine due to poor thermals (Apple's default fan settings seem to let the machine bake before revving the fans) I'm considering forcing the fans to run at a high RPM constantly to keep them low. However, I'm also curious if this is a bad idea for the health of the machine. Putting the fans under constant load sounds like a bad idea, but I'm not sure how durable the MBP fans are. If anyone has knowledge on this or has experience with using these programs for this please let me know.
This is what temps look like on default Apple fan control, and I don't think this is very good. I have gotten higher than this.
If I set the constant RPM to close to max, the temps cool down to a very acceptable level, so I'm giving it serious consideration, the fan noise does not bother me so if it won't hurt the machine I'm good to go.
