This is probably a simple/stupid question, but I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and I am thinking about getting a Wireless Charger Stand with MagSafe. I have just a regular 3rd party leather case that does not impede charging on non-Magsafe chargers. Do I need any kind of specific case to use a Magsafe charger, for it to attach etc., or will it work fine with nothing additional (iPhone 13 + leather case)? I just don't know much about how Magsafe works, I assume the phone magnetically attaches to the MagSafe charger through the leather case?

Thanks!

This depends a bit on the specific charger stand and how strong you can get the magnetic connection to work. Example: my wife uses the Belkin 3 in 1 charger with her iPhone mini which is in a third party silicone case and it stays in place. A pro max will be heavier so give it a try.

A lot of cases will work with MagSafe as far as charging thru them. You may have a problem with a heavier phone like the ProMax not getting it to attach sufficiently to hold it with the magnet.

The first case I bought was a Spigen Liquid Armor. It's listed as "MagSafe compatible", but it doesn't have a magnet built into the case. The magnetic attachment through the case was so weak that it wouldn't hold to a MagSafe charger on a stand, I had to use it lying flat. I then switched to a Caudabe Sheath, which does have a magnet built into the back of the case, and the attachment is much stronger. I can now use my phone on a MagSafe holder in my car and it stays put driving rough roads, over big bumps, hard cornering, etc.

Long story short - it'll depend on the case, but if it doesn't have a magnet built into the back of it, the attachment will most likely be far less secure on a MagSafe charger. It could be anywhere from halfway decent to completely useless.
