So, I found an mp3 ringtone that I wanted. Im not into ringtones that are songs, I just found a basic phone ringtone. I followed instructions found on another website to just change the extension of the mp3 to m4r and either drag and drop into itunes or double-click on it and it would import automatically.

I have tried everything and I cannot get the ringtone to show up in iTunes! Ive tried the import, add to library, drag and drop, double-click, etc. Can anyone tell me what else I can try? If this wasnt the correct manner, please let me know how to do it. When I click on Get Info of the m4r, it shows as Ring.

Also, if for some reason, an mp3 is not a good file to convert, the file was also available in wav and mid formats if it makes a difference. Can someone please help on how to get this onto my phone? Thanks!

Can't you throw it into GarageBand and move it to iTunes that way?

open the mp3 in itunes
convert the mp3 to aac
drag the converted file out of itunes and onto the desktop
rename .m4a to .m4r
open .m4r file
should show up under ringtones

MAKE SURE THE FILE IS AROUND 30 SECONDS

Thanks, this is what I was looking for! I also used GarageBand for the first time, but it was a bit harder and distorted my song a bit when it converted  Anyway, I have my ringtone that I want now! Thanks so much! :D

for furthere reference you can have a look at the link in my sig, whoich is a guide on making ringtones and soon to be a guide on making SMS tones too.
