Question regarding Applecare purchase

I bought a refurbished MBP last year, and the ship date was Jun 22, 2009. I've had a lot going on recently and just remembered the other day that I never purchased AppleCare for my Macbook Pro.

I only had one year from that date to buy it, correct? Or do I still have anyways of covering my machine? Thanks in advance.

It must be purchased during the initial 1-year warranty period.

unless.. you find someone who purchased it via cash prior to your end of 1st year and never registered it and is willing to sell it to you with the receipt, then you could say you purchased it before, have proof of purchase and they would honor it.
