Question regarding Emulators and Roms.

I've been trying to find a good emulator that actually works on my mac over the past week.

I had a PC, and it seems every emulation system I downloaded worked, but not a single one has worked on my Mac.
I have been downloading emulators that are built for Mac, but should I just give up or is there one that actually works out there?
