Question regarding iCloud Drive and older ipads

I am running Yosemite beta 4, along with iOS 8.0.2 on an iPad 4 and iOS 7.1.2 on an iPad 2. I have not upgraded either Yosemite or the iPad 4 to iCloud Drive because I don't know where that will leave the iPad 2 as far as the old iCloud. Will it still be able to work with the old iCloud?
 
I'm 99% sure your documents and data will stop working. All other iCloud services will be fine.

Source: that's what's happening to my iMac which is running Mavericks (no iWork document sync).
