Question regarding rMBP and Thunderbolt Display

Hey guys,

I just have a quick question. I notice that my 15" rMBP has a higher resolution than the Apple Thunderbolt display. 2560 x 1440 compared to 2880 x 1800.
While connected to the thunderbolt display with my rMBP closed, will the machine run marginally faster because its driving less pixels?
