Here is the scenario in which I am in. I am on a family plan of which none of the four numbers are eligible for a standard upgrade. I am fine paying $499 for the iPhone 4 but then I started to think. One of the numbers on the plan recently upgraded (within the last two months) to the Palm Pre Plus (already had a work iPhone) so that member just renewed their number's contract. My last upgrade was during the iPhone 3G S's launch so I am not eligible for an upgrade until February 2011. With this in mind, I checked the upgrade eligibility on Apple's website giving me the above date and price point. Surprisingly though, I also checked the just recently renewed contract and that also said that I could purchase the iPhone 4 at $499 but that line's eligibility for a full price discount until January 2012. What I am wondering is if there would be any issue (such as AT&T trying to get me to pay the no commitment price point) if I just use that line for an upgrade and thus only extending the full price eligibility by a month or two while preserving my upgrade date of February 2011? Also, does anyone know how activation would work (I would be purchasing one online ) and any issues (with the phone switch or with future upgrade eligibility) that I may incur? Thanks for the responses!
