Hi folks, quick question:
I have a few MP4 video files (in h.264 format) which play fine using QuickTime. Example one file is xyz-part1.mp4 and the other xyz-part2.mp4. Both from the same source etc.
For some reason, Finder only generates a thumbnail for part 1, not part 2. I've tried the following:
Checked the permissions - they are both the same (read/write for the logged on user)
Killall Finder - all thumbnails are re-generated in that folder, but part 2 (and a couple of other 'problem' files fail to generate a thumbnail)
I have also used Cocktail to repair permissions and launch services database, then performed another kill of Finder.
It seems the issue is related to the video files themselves as behaviour is consistent, but they are 'just' video files - how or why would they affect the way Finder decides to generate a thumbnail or not? The playback of the files themselves are not an issue, QuickTime plays them fine...
Any ideas? Is this a known Finder or QuickTime issue?
UPDATE: Fixed the problematic files by using CocoThumbX utility (third party). I've only had problems with those two files though which is odd, so it doesn't seem to be an inherent problem of the OS.
