I am thinking about getting the new apple TV. Will it play any MP4 format videos? Also i am considering getting it because i want to down load movies and have them play on my TV. If I DL the movies in 1080p will it play 1080p on my TV? If I have the movie already down loaded and in ituens do I need to have internet to stream them from my computer to apple tv? thanks!

The Apple TV is limited to 720p.
It connects to your iTunes library, and will stream anything in it that's compatible with the hardware; you don't need internet in the sense of connecting to the outside world, but you do need to be on a network with a computer that's running iTunes.
