Questionable new Blu-Ray case design?

I just bought Quantum of Solace on blu ray, and noticed the case design has holes in it. On the left is a "recycle" symbol, and on the right is a punched out wheel design. They probably did this to save the little bit of plastic on each case, but i think it kind of defeats the whole purpose of protecting the disk as I have already punched a hole in the back cover through the openings while opening it up. Anyone else seen this design before?

I've seen the recycle symbol on new DVD cases as well but not that entire punched out segment. You notice these things when you get new DVDs every week at work.
