My sister has a 2016 MacBook Retina 12 (can‘t remember excaclty which build), bought in 2016. Some days ago, the prohibited sign showed when she turned on her computer, and we tried to fix it. When entering recovery mode, disk Utility does not show the SSD. When using terminal and command “diskutil list” it doesn’t show it either. Just a bunch of logical volumes, propably due to being in recovery mode.

Issue is, it’s just over 2 years old, thus its 2 year warranty (i live in Europe) is not valid anymore. So going to Apple to get it fixed is the last resort.

Any idea what this might be? Is it a trivial issue, or is it due to the flash being faulty?

Sounds like the SSD is hosed to be honest
Could be a faulty connector, but I don't think you can open it up replace anyway
Did you recently upgrade it to High Sierra?
