Hi,
Sorry, I am reposting this at the correct spot.
I bought a iphone 3GS 16gb black a month ago through ebay and the box is still sealed in the plastic (unopened).
I recently just read up on a thread on this website that mentions that in order to use an iphone 4 thats been bought from someone else, they have to activate it for you first by entering their zip code and their last 4 digits of their social security number (If it is locked to AT&T). Someone bought an iphone 4 and was unaware of this and he ended up not being able to use it.
I was wondering if I should be concern about this because I did not open the iphone 3GS yet.
On the Apple Support Website it shows:
Please activate your iPhone
We are unable to display coverage details because your iPhone has not been activated.
Please contact your iPhone retailer or wireless carrier to activate your iPhone.
I have until November 10 to return it if I cannot use it. But I do not want to open it if I am going to return it because of the possible problem mention above.
So my questions is basically:
1)Does the activation thing applies to 3GS as well? Since I have a factory sealed iphone 3GS, should I be concern on whether or not if I will be able to use it?
2) If it is locked to AT&T and the phone is not activated, would jailbreaking it through the tools provided (pwnage tool, limera1n, etc), jailbreak it and allow me to access the phone?
Thanks for clearing this up for me. I do not want to end up with a phone that I cannot use.
The reason I did not open it yet is because I have another iphone that I am trying to sell 1st before I open this. In case I do not sell that iphone then I rather sell this sealed in box iphone.
