Questions about downloading apps.

I found out that it is possible to download the app to my computer by itself without going into installer, but when I put it in my applications folder, and restart my ipod, customize's loading page comes up but it wont load all the way. It just crashes. I was trying to read the .xml to figure out what its doing but I couldnt figure out. Please help me because I do not have the availability to a wifi network and it would be alot easier to do it this way.
