Questions about file format and limitations

Hello, I use Mac OS, Windows and Linux. I have an issue about which format is the best to back up files from all three systems. I also have a question about using HFS+ formated drive to backup Winclone's backup. Could you please have a look at the following thread and give me advice? Thanks
