Questions About Infrared Filters For Camcorders (GhostHunting)

I am wanting to modify my run of the mill mini DV camcorder into a good cam to shoot with in the dark. It doesn't have night vision on it at all. I have that you can buy Infrared Filters to place over the lens of the Cam to make it shoot well in the dark. Does anyone know anything about this? If so please help me out!
