Questions about Jailbreaking a 3GS 3.1.2

I have an iphone 3gs version 3.1.2 (7d11)

Modem Firmware 05.11.07

I'm buying an ipad soon and want to be able to tether my iphones internet connection to the ipad or use the iphone as a wifi hotspot.

I understand that to do that I have to jailbreak my phone which I'm cool with.

Am I able to jailbreak this phone with the above version?

I'm a total nooby so if there is a link to a step by step guide that would be greatly appreciated!
