Questions about new macbook air

I just got a 2014 Macbook air open box from Microcenter. I have a couple of questions. It is the 11.6 model.

One why does the screen seem more pixelated the dimmer it is?

Second there seems to be a dark strip close to the very top and very bottom. Is this normal? Could just be that I have gotten used to retina screens but I needed a small laptop for school and this seems perfect just wondering about these things.

Nope not normal call apple send it in get repaired screen

Which isn't normal. The pixelation when dimmed or the band. It's kinda like a very thin shadow at the top and bottom. It goes away if I raise the brightness.

Ah. Yea there seems to be some other issues popping up as well. I'll take it to my university repair center once the semester is over. Need the computer to finish my school work for now.
