Hey,

could someone please help me? I am a little confused with the versioning scheme of the three Safaris and how to use them.

I noticed, that always when a new version of an OS X beta is released, the Safari Technology Preview has an older build number than the standard Safari but the Preview has always two build numbers and the second one seems to be newer. At the moment with the final version of 10.11.5 the first number is the same but the second one newer.

The only exception was the Technology Preview 2 what came the same day along a beta of OS X 10.11.5. Every other version came much later than the OS X beta.

Now I just wonder which one I should use and if the Technology Preview is outdated until the next one is released if an OS X beta with a newer Safari build number will be released in the meantime.

I can enable a Debug and a Developer menu in the normal Safari too.

I don't like the WebKit Browser (Safari nightly version) because you cannot save Passwords and it does not fill out forms automatically and cannot sync with iCloud. Also it's called Safari too if open and even shows the same tabs when both, the standard Safari and the WebKit Safari are opened at the same time. So it's not really comfortable to use.

Also WebKit always tells me it is not set as standard browser because of the same name and I shall choose Safari, but then the standard Safari will be opened instead, so I have to set WebKit again as standard in the System Prefernces and just ignore that message in the WebKit Safari settings.

I sometimes replace some of the framework files in the Technology Preview with the ones from WebKit to always have the latest version and it has a different name than Safari. A That's not really the problem. But I think my solution to use the frameworks from webkit in STP, what works fine, is not really safe or proper.

This is what it looks like at the moment:

Safari from OS X 10.11.5 final:

Safari Technology Preview 4 (in 1 and 3 the first build number was older than the standard Safari in the latest beta of OS X 10.11.5 for about a week until 2 and 4 were released):

And this is the latest WebKit browser, what normally has a black icon and always (but not today, maybe tomorrow again) a newer build or even version number and is released nearly every day (https://webkit.org/nightly/archives/):

So, what might be the best way to use the latest Safari version as full functional main Safari but a different name? And are these versions really the same today with the identical build number? Or is there anything newer in the TP with the second higher build number and WebKit with a second totally different build number?

I would be happy for any help.
