Questions for a new purchase, hard drive stuff

My buddy is buying a 13" MBP tomorrow and had a few questions that I wasn't too sure of.

1. He wants to upgrade the stock hard drive to a 500gb from newegg as soon as possible, how does that process work?

2. The reason for the purchase is that it's a replacement of an old MacBook that is no longer under warranty and doesn't work anymore. What would I need to take out the old hard drive from that computer and get his data and whatnot transferred over to the new machine?

Your answers would be greatly appreciated!

It's pretty easy for both, I'd just google a guide on changing the hard drive, and use that, they are pretty detailed.

2. http://www.ifixit.com/Browse/MacBook + an external HDD enclosure for 2.5" S-ATA HDDs, connected to your Mac via USB.
After that, you can use the Migration Assistant or simply the Finder.
