Sorry if these questions are dumb...

Just got my 2011 15" MBP and a 27" ACD to go with it. Very Nice! :)

Can I put the ACD to sleep and keep using MBP screen w/out unplugging anything?

How do I turn off ACD while MBP is running? By simply pulling out mini display cable? It seems to work, but is it safe over time, or should I shut down/sleep MBP first?

So if I'm ready to grab MBP and go, just simply unplug cables or shut down first?

Thanks for your time.

I dont believe there is anyway to shut off the display while the macbook pro is running. the Shift Control Ejectkey method will shut off all displays (both the ACD and MBPs display) and when you goto use the MBP it will awaken all displays.

best bet is to just unplug the display cable form the macbook pro; should not be a problem over any period of time.

no need to shut down at all, it will be good to go.
