Hi: I bought three 512MB sticks of PC133 RAM to max out my (new to me) G4 Digital Audio from a local PC repair shop, and found a bit of a glitch: one of the sticks prevents the system from booting, but only if it's in the DIMM slot next to the PCI slot. OSX recognizes the RAM, and it seems to run fine if I simply move it to another slot.
So I downloaded Memtestosx, and ran it overnight. I'm not put off by command line interfaces, but have three immediate questions:
1.) I've installed both a USB 2.0 PCI card in this system and a front panel Sweet Multiport card reader/USB/Firewire unit that plugs into it. The software seems to spend endless time testing one or another Firewire channels, and it takes two minutes for each channel test to time out. Is there a way to disable this portion of Memtestosx? All I want to do is test the RAM.
2.) Where does the software put the test log? I've run the ls command from the command line, but cannot find a log or text file related to Memtest, even with Spotlight.
3.) Along these lines, is there a file management program akin to Nautilus in Linux that gives a twin panel file listing for copying, moving, and file management? Finder won't let me look at system files.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
