What would you say was the average age of refurbished models sold by Apple? I am assuming they are only a few weeks old in that someone received the goods but was either unhappy with it or the item was faulty in some way. How likely is it that someone had the item for months before sending it back to Apple? :(

Also is it likely that refurbished models are scratched/dented in some way?

Hi there,

I bought a refurbished MacBook Pro earlier this year.

It was built about halfway through March (Week 11) - found here.

I was lucky and recieved mine with AppleCare and I am assuming the previous owner bought the laptop and AppleCare at the same time, which would place the purchase date at March 26 - found here.

I ordered it on the 15th of June, shipped on the 16th, and arrived on the 17th.

It did arrive with a few minor problems:
1. Small ding on the top edge.
2. Front edges aren't level when closed.
3. One of the rubber feet is scratched.

I decided I could live with all of these and didn't want to go and ask for a replacement and end up with one without AppleCare ;)
And anyway, I saved the money buying a refurbished one so I can't expect brand new quality (although Mum bought exactly the same refurbished model a week later, it also came with AppleCare and has no imperfections )

Does this help?

edit: oh, and what he said ^^^^ :)

Thanks that is what I wanted to know.

If a refurbed model has a larger discount is it likely to be older/damaged?

You shouldn't have to worry about damage. If you do get one that is damaged I am sure Apple will replace it with one that is not damaged.
