Hello,

I wanted to pick the brains of fellow photographers/designers who are using the mac book pro for a majority of there production work.

I'm making the move from PC soon, and my current set-up is quite outdated. As a result, I don't have a clear idea of what to expect in terms of performance. I thought I might ask a few questions and see what you had to say.

1.) If I'm working on a file in photoshop, that is say 27x41 at 300DPI, or around 600MB -- what kind of speed would I expect in terms of opening, closing the file, moving around it, and applying filters like sharpen, color correcting, etc.? Obviously, this is a big boy, but I'm using it as a baseline. That is around the size of a standard movie one sheet poster.

2.) Battery Life. My current laptop has basically no battery life (1.5 hrs, if I am lucky, real lucky). I've always heard that desktop replacements can't expect much more than this due to the strain of running high consumption programs like the Adobe CS suite, along with wireless, etc. What kind of battery life can I expect from the MBP running multiple apps, wireless, browsing, etc?

3.) How long would it take you to render a video file (avi) that is about 1 hour long (typical tv show) to .mp4?

4.) Is it necessary to have my screen calibrated on the MBP? I'm assuming yes, but since the Mac is pretty much standard in all aspects of multimedia production, I was wondering if the calibration has pretty much been done in production.

Thats it right now, I would appreciate any input. Looking forward to the switch.

Thanks - MD
