I plan to purchase an SSD to replace my mid 2010 MacBook’s hard drive. It is currently running High Sierra (barely). I’d like to do a clean install with the new SSD. Looking for recommendations on what operating system would provide the best performance on this older laptop. I know with High Sierra the file system was changed to APFS, but my MacBook is still on HFS+, so I’m wondering if High Sierra isn’t the best option..
MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 13-Inch (White Polycarbonate "Unibody" - Mid-2010) features a 2.4 GHz Intel "Core 2 Duo" processor

Thank you

High Sierra can run on either HFS+ or APFS. I'm not sure what it would default to for your 2010 with a non-Apple SSD though.

The 850 EVO would probably be fine, but make sure you have lots of empty space, in case activating TRIM causes problems.

I went with the 850 EVO and followed the instructions in the link you provided. My only regret is not doing it sooner! Everything has been running beautifully on High Sierra. Thanks!
