I live in Canada and I have a friend who is bringing me an iPhone in the next week or so... What I am wondering is: The latest firmware update for the phone will be launched by the time I get the phone, so will I be able to unlock the phone by just using the phone's firmware that it ships with? Or, will I be able to choose which firmware update I put on the phone when I am updating it?

EDIT: I'm worried that if I update the iPhone it will automatically update to the latest firmware and therefore stop me from unlocking the phone.

I hope I am making sense...

Thanks!

i have the same concern, wait until the sep 18th update(if there is one) and youll see if anyone has issues. even if it does break the unlock I suspect someone will fix it within a month, probably within days

If you are concerned, D/L the CURRENT restore file (ver 1.0.2)- we know that works with the current unlock stuff. Then just run that when you restore.

Where can I download this restore file? Thanks!

So I'm a little confused now that I have downloaded this firmware. There's two .dmg files in the folder. How would I get these to run on the iPhone?

Would I just connect the phone to the computer and then run the .dmg files?:confused:

Hmmm... I am not sure. If there is a NEWER version, it MAY ignore the old one.

This is a question for someone smarter than me!

:( Damn... Hopefully someones know here!

Thanks for your help anyways mate.

Anyone have an answer to this:

Following the steps of the iPhone Unlock Wiki I have to restore and update the iPhone. If I do this after the next firmware update, will it stop me from unlocking the phone, or does this just set the phone back to factory specs and then I can install the firmware update of my choice (the current firmware)?
