Other than NOT being in Airplane Mode (several threads say this will cause problems), any other settings that need to be a certain way to avoid problems?

Does my 3G need to have a data connection of it's own to be able to complete the upgrade (in other words, if I'm not in range of a cellular network... I can use wifi through Internet Sharing to "connect" to the internet) properly?

If I have a legit copy of 2.2.1 firmware and I have a lot of problems after upgrading to 3.0 as some users are experiencing, can I easily reinstall (ie; downgrade) the 2.2.1 firmware and restore from a recent backup?

Thanks for any info!

i dont believe you need a data connection on the iphone im not sure though
you can put your iphone into dfu mode and then install 2.2.1 if u dont like 3.0 but i dont understand why you wouldnt like it. you can restore from a recent backup on both 2.2.1 and 3.0
