Quick Guide for Removing HD in 2006 iMac?

We have an old iMac (2006) that I want to send to the electronics recycler, but I want to make sure that there's no data on the HD. The computer turns on, but does not fully boot, so I can't do the normal things to wipe the HD.

Can someone point me to an easy guide for taking out the HD myself?
