When you take a movie from your iPhoto library and copy it to an event in iMovie, does that mean I now have the same video in my iPhoto library and also somewhere in the iMovie area of my computer? Doesn't that waste space? Is there any work around this?

Does FCPX do the same thing? I wish it would just redirect the HDD to look at the movie in iPhoto rather than recopying..because that will suck up hard drive space very quickly

I don''t know about iMovie, but by default FCPX doesn't move or copy the original media. It will read it from wherever you have it stored now. If you look in your Event you will just see aliases.

Render files etc are created on the same drive you store you project on. If you need to render most of your project then these files could be quite large so you do need to think where you store your project.

Thank you! Thats what I needed to know. Didn't want FCPX wasting away tons of space on my computer by not being a smart program..
