Hey, I just got my first iPhone on July 11 and am loving it! Anyways, I got the separate 250 text messages for like $5 but I was wondering if mobile to mobile texts is included in that because some of my friends have AT&T and this would save me a lot. Thanks!

As far as I know ATT does not offer M2M texts anymore. They used to - I had it - but I know they forced me to get rid of it when I got a new plan.

All texts count toward your 250 (are you sure it isn't 200?) included in that plan. Other phones have a separate unlimited mobile-to-mobile plan with 200 non-AT&T texts for $10, but I don't know if you can get that with the iPhone or not.

If you txt alot to AT&T people it might be worth checking out...

Looks like you may be right - I don't see that option online any more - even for regular phones. My step-daughter added that plan on her phone earlier this year...

I found this on their site. I don't know if I can link to it as I got to it through my account manager:

Question:
What is unlimited mobile to mobile (M2M) messaging?
Answer:

Effective 1/20/2008, AT&T no longer offers messaging packages or bundled packages with this Unlimited Mobile to Mobile (M2M) messaging component.

Unlimited Mobile-to-Mobile (M2M) Messaging allows you to send unlimited M2M messages (text, picture and video) every month to any other AT&T wireless customer on the AT&T owned wireless network.

To receive the new Unlimited M2M Messaging, you must be provisioned with a Messaging Package or MEdia Bundle feature that includes Unlimited M2M Messaging. This is a new feature offer and is not a stand-alone or an add-on, but rather it's included in new messaging offers for an additional monthly fee.

For instructions on adding features online within myWireless Account, visit the topic: How can I add, change or remove a feature?

Note: Unlimited Mobile to Mobile Messaging includes unlimited text, picture, and video messages between AT&T wireless customers sent or received while on the AT&T owned wireless network. Instant Messages and any other usage not expressly included herein will be debited from your package's messaging allowance. A subscription to one of the current Message Packages or MEdia Bundles is required.

For information on messaging packages currently available, please visit: Messaging and MEdia (TM) Bundles.

Thanks for all the help guys. One more question. Do incoming and outgoing texts count or just outgoing?

both incoming and outgoing count to your 200(I dont know where you got 250 from, AT&T offers 200, 1000, 1500, and unlimited), say, you used up 199 txts, some1 sends you a new txt mssg, n you reply...you went over by 1.

Ok, this is my last question. Since right now I only have 200 texts and already went over by 23, could I call AT&T and ask them to upgrade my text plan to the 1500 one right now? Would the new text plan take effect right at the moment they change it, or would I have to wait until my next billing cycle for it to start up?

It will probably kick in immediately, or close to it. It won't likely retroactively include the overages you've already done. You may be able to ask nicely and have the agent waive the charges for the overages, though.

I tried that last month after using up my 200 texts in 3 days (SO was out of town :)) The gave me the upgraded texts and prorated my plan, but
I was still charged for the overage (this was on my 2G as well). Good luck!
